After a bit of a hectic hiatus from Tarot (and this blog), the call to return to the cards is too loud to bear & my Tarot interest has now turned to reading for profit. I dare say that I’ll be reading “professionally” because to me that stereotypically equates to decades of study and I’m only barely 2 decades old myself!
However, I have been studying Tarot for years & I feel confident in my ability to read for clients & I deserve to be compensated for my work, time & knowledge. Making money is ok! I used to be really hung up on the idea of reading for payment but I’ve come to see that it’s perfectly fair when you represent yourself honestly & ethically. While I’d never be able to charge my close friends for readings, friends of friends are fair game.
Do you read professionally? Do you charge? How did you come to get started reading for payment? Share your stories in the comments!

Welcome back! (I posted here as Kuna before, and got tired of juggling personas online so I’m down to just the one).
As to charging for readings, I think it’s a great idea. Not just because you deserve to be compensated for your knowledge and effort, but moreso because people often treat free things lightly. If they pay money for something, they are more likely to listen carefully to what you say, and more likely to act upon your advice and the wisdom given through the cards.
I say, “Congratulations!”
I’m still at the stage where I do personal readings and a very few readings for close friends through email – I don’t think I would feel comfortable offering a reading for a stranger just yet, money or no.
Again, I’m very happy to see you’re back! I kept you on the feed reader just in case. <3

Tami,
Thanks for leaving me on your reader!! My BF got after me for letting these blogs go and he was right – they’re too much fun to stop & I really do love talking Tarot!
Thanks for sticking around and commenting – it made my day!
I also agree that people appreciate what they pay for. I hope that by paying they really do think about the reading and act on it in the future. I hope you keep reading too!

Hi Garnet, nice to meet you
Congratulations! As a fellow reader, I applaud your efforts to remain ethical in your work. The world definitely needs more responsible and ethical readers!
Also, I agree with charging clients if you are reading professionally, and that there must be the element of “give and take” present so that the reader appreciates and takes to heart what is revealed in the reading.
In the beginning I also struggled with whether or not to accept payment, as I think many readers do. What you have to remember is that you aren’t charging them for the reading necessarily; but you are charging them for your TIME, as well as for all the experience you’ve gained through years of study and working with the cards.
You really have a cool blog, I’ll have to stop by when I have more time to poke around. Have a great week!
